The First Annual Change the Face Race

2008 Change the Face RaceOn Saturday, September 13, more than 7” of rain fell in Chicago.  Many of them during our race.  But that didn't stop about 150 dedicated, determined and loyal walkers and runners, including our race coordinator, Kate Merrill and Hunter Tylo.  It rained on our "parade" but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those that attended. The 5K running race was a USATF sanctioned event and was won by Joseph Drungil of Cleveland.  Congratulations! After the race many stayed to enjoy post-race activities including crafts for the kids, food, and fun and games, including home-made slip 'n slide with mud and garbage bags.

Kate Merrill and Dawn O'Farrell spent many selfless hours planning for a spectacular event.  We made the best out of a very messy situation.  We were fortunate, yet again to have Patti Vasquez as our Mistress of Ceremonies.  The Celtic Groundhogs were scheduled to provide entertainment; unfortunately there was no dry land to play on.  Other donors we would like to recognize are:

  • Bubba Burgers
  • Dominick's, Park Ridge
  • Super K-Mart Center/Sear's Holding
  • Trader Joe's, Glenview
  • Marsha Fuller- ProCasa Realty
  • Vitner's
  • Dairy Queen
  • Malarky's Distributing
  • Incredible Edibles
  • Leticia Close
