Kimberly

I began having simple partial seizures at the age of 29. Since I was woking a high pressure job, I just thought it was stress. Then one night in November as I pulled into my driveway, I went into a grand mal. When I came to I was walking blocks from my house. I was confused. I asked someone for directions to my office and after a couple blocks I noticed the street I lived on. Even more confused I headed home and it didn't hit me until I saw my car in the front lawn with the headlights on that I realized what happened.

I'm 41 now, divorced and raising two beautiful angels. I take a combination of four medications three times per day after trying every medication currently available. I have simple to complex partial seizures throughout the month...sometimes its a good month and I only have a couple, sometimes more.

I hope my story helps. I have been as private as possible about having Epilepsy due to the social stigma and fear.  Thank you for helping us walk a scary path.

50 percent of U.S. Vietnam War veterans with penetrating brain injuries developed epilepsy within one to 15 years post-trauma. The incidence of post-traumatic epilepsy is expected to increase among Iraq War veterans since they are exposed to more harmful explosives.
